Oracle DBA

 
 

Woodbourne Solutions is looking for a skilled Oracle DBA to manage, monitor, and maintain Oracle databases for clients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  While the role is primarily for Oracle, the applicant ideally would also have knowledge of the administration of SQL Server and MySQL as the DBA team supports all three databases. This role involves after-hours and weekend support with a small team.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Production, Test, and Development databases that support the Institute’s various applications deployed in both on-prem and cloud environments.

  • Provide administrative support for Oracle databases and Oracle client, potentially including SQL Server databases, MySQL databases, , and SQL Server Reporting environment.

  • Administer Oracle databases in standalone and multitenant architecture on Linux in cloud environments.

  • Ensure that the user base can access the data residing in the IT systems.

  • Is responsible for nightly and monthly maintenance on the database servers including evaluating current patches and follow-on patching of database software and security updates, maintaining standby databases, and performing routine maintenance tasks.

  • Work with other teams for database related support such as refresh data in test, recover data from a table, production release support, set up the communication between COTS & databases, SQL Server & Oracle, resolve system vulnerabilities, etc.

  • Provide performance tuning.

  • ·         Conduct database backup and recovery including Oracle export/import, RMAN backup, Cohesity backup, etc.

  • Maintain accounts, roles, and privileges.

  • Install, configure, and upgrade database servers.

  • Check the health of all databases and servers daily including Oracle, SQL server, and MySQL.

  • Execute DDL and DML when needed.

  • Perform troubleshooting.

  • Provide database administration and data mart support on prem and in Azure cloud.

  • Author and maintain Standard Operating Procedures that provide a framework for planning and performing the maintenance on database and report servers.

  • Add fields/tables to the Datamart as required by applications or report users, to both active and archive, then update new field(s) in archive as necessary.

  • Keep documentation current for all changes.

  • Develop and maintain external (to Oracle) webservice calls to eRA or other sources. Currently these exist as .Net applications but may be converted to Oracle procedure calls.

  • Create views of Datamart data to simplify data access by end users and/or developers building Power BI and Qlik Sense reports.

  • Monitor downloads (and address issues if needed) daily to ensure the data is always up to date.

  • Evaluate and implement new databases based on business needs.

  • Write stored procedures, SQL, T SQL for Oracle, SQL Server, and/or MySQL.

  • Retrieve data from federal enterprise data warehouses.

  • Setup and maintain Data Guard.

  • Leverage Oracle’s Enterprise Manager (OEM) cloud control software for job scheduling and monitoring.

  • Setup and maintain and utilize Oracle Apex.

  • Setup and maintain GoldenGate for replication. Support developers as needed with GoldenGate.

  • Day-to-day maintenance activities include daily backup, periodic long-term backups, database account maintenance, as well as technology and security upgrades to the Oracle Database, Oracle client, and OEM Management Software.
