Developed by Woodbourne Solutions and HealthBizNow, FindAResident™ helps match medical students with medical residency programs nationwide. The service allows medical students to post their electronic resumes and photos and rank the specialties they are most interested in. Then they can search the programs with unmatched positions. At the same time, program directors can use the site's search engine to find medical students so they can fill their internship positions.

Each year in the Spring, there is a nationwide "Match" between the 8,000 medical residency programs and the 30,000 medical students looking for a program. This is called the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP™). Each program lists the students it would like to be interns. Each student lists the programs where they would like to be interns. These lists are then "matched" against each other and the preferred programs and interns are connected to each other. However, each year there are students who do not find programs. The programs where they wanted to become interns chose other students instead. And there are programs that do not find as many students as they need. The students they chose went instead to other programs.

This results in what is called the "Scramble" - a trying time for the 10,000 unmatched students and the programs as they attempt to find each other. FindAResident™ was created to fill the post-Match void.

This service operates like most job hunting sites; medical students post a resume, the program director finds their resume, adds it to their portfolio, then contacts the student directly, or lets the site email the student. Or the program director posts their open positions, the students find the position and add it to their portfolio, then contact the program directly.

The site allows program directors to post and edit descriptions of open positions for the students to view. Program directors can search for students using specific criteria: by state (for instance states in which they are licensed or not), by test scores, by interest, by specialty, by program year. The directors can then add resumes of potential interns to their portfolio and query medical students and residents.

In turn, the students can post and edit their resumes, and upload images of themselves to accompany the resume. Once posted, thousands of program directors can access this information as they search across the list of specialties in which the student is interested. Students can search for programs using criteria such as location, open positions and specialty. The students can then add a potential program to their own portfolio. This action automatically sends an email to the program announcing the student's interest.

Although the site provides in particular for the post-Match Scramble, it remains active at all times since positions open up throughout the year.
